Ready to Travel? Why Prepping Your Body Matters.

Summer is here, and for many of us, that means it’s time to hit the road, catch a flight, or step away from our usual routines for some much-needed travel and adventure. Taking a break is great for the mind—but it also places new demands on the body.

When we explore unfamiliar places, we’re also navigating new terrain—uneven surfaces, longer walks, different beds and seating, and the physical demands of travel days. When you head out on vacation, we want your biggest memories to be the laughs, the adventures, and the time spent with people you love—not discomfort, fatigue, or pain.

At EMX, we believe the best way to enjoy your vacation is to feel strong and supported going into it. Here are a few key things to keep in mind as you prepare for your summer getaway—so you can move with confidence and make the most of every step.

Key Areas to Strengthen and Support Before You Go

While every body is unique, there are a few key areas we like to focus on at EMX to help you feel travel-ready:

Transverse Abdominis (Core Stability): The TVA acts like your body’s natural back brace—it wraps around the spine and hips to provide deep, foundational support. Think of it like a soda can: when full and pressurized, it’s strong and stable; when empty, it crumples under pressure. A strong TVA helps you better tolerate long periods of walking, standing, or lifting luggage. If you've ever experienced low-grade back pain while traveling, TVA activation and strengthening may be the missing link.

Hip, Knee & Ankle Stability: We focus on the small stabilizing muscles around your joints. These muscles are key for balance, coordination, and injury prevention—especially when you're navigating uneven sidewalks, stairs, curbs, or hopping in and out of a car or plane. A strong chain of support from the hip down helps keep you steady wherever your travels take you.

Lower Body Strength & Endurance: Once we’ve built stability, we target the larger muscle groups—glutes, quads, and hamstrings—for strength and stamina. This extra layer of protection supports your joints, helps energy conservation, and helps prevent soreness and fatigue throughout your trip. Whether you're walking long distances or on your feet all day, lower body strength is key to keeping you going.

Some special considerations:

Long car rides and flights can leave your joints feeling stiff and achy. Staying in one position for too long limits circulation and can make you feel sluggish before your trip even begins. One simple—but often overlooked—solution is to move every hour. Just a few minutes of standing, stretching, or walking can promote blood flow, reduce stiffness, and help you maintain your energy throughout the day. Small movements make a big difference!

Vacations should leave you feeling refreshed—not worn down. With a little preparation, you can give your body the support it needs to handle new environments, longer days, and more movement with ease.

No matter where you are in your fitness journey, we’re here to help you build a solid foundation so you can step into vacation feeling strong, steady, and confident.
